A semitrailer for drinks transportation is rather original kind of motor transportation equipment which is conditioned, on the one hand, by the cargo feature, and on the other – by the nature of the transportation process itself. The matter is that for transporting many kinds of drinks on long distances, for example, from manufacturers up to wholesale trading bases, ordinary semitrailer-vans or refrigerators (if according to the cargo storage conditions maintenance of the certain temperature mode is required) can be successfully applied. Specialized beverage semitrailers are necessary mainly as a vehicle in the distribution network, that is when delivering drinks to the places of retail - to shops, restaurants, bars, etc.
If also a “delicate" character of a cargo – bottles and cans with drinks – is considered, as a result great demands for maintenance of the cargo safety, on convenience and on loading-unloading performance speed and on a maneuverability (especially at movement on city streets and at shops entrance) are placed on beverage semitrailers. Therefore beverage semitrailers have a lot of strongly pronounced design features:
• they are equipped with a pneumatic suspension, the systems reducing the level of vibration, and refrigerator units;
• they have smaller length in comparison with ordinary vans, and the increase in carrying capacity is reached due to greater "height";
• they are produced mainly as single-axle, and thus the only axle is displaced to the "tail" of a trailer as much as possible;
• the semitrailer body is divided into isolated compartments (usually from 12 up to 20) with independent access to each of them at loading-unloading;
• the semitrailer side walls are designed as curtains – separately for each compartment;
• they have a very small ground clearance for a semitrailer – approximately 35 cm (14").
As well as the majority of other modern trailers having a volumetric design, beverage semitrailers are generally made of aluminium.
